Seventh National Competition Eyes New Legal Frameworks
GITAM Deemed to be University has opened the floor for the seventh Dr. M.V.V.S. Murthi Moot Court Competition, a national legal event slated for October 7 to 10. Based at the Visakhapatnam campus, the GITAM School of Law will lead an academic investigation into the practical application of India's modernized statutes. Director Moumita Sen Chakraborty presided over the official poster launch, flanked by Dean A. Rajendra Prasad and faculty organizers L. Ashish Kumar and S. Naveen Teja.
Criminal Jurisprudence and Modern Evidence
This year’s competition diverges from historical precedents by centering its moot problem on the newly enacted 2023 legal codes. Participants must navigate the statutory shifts within the following frameworks:
- Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023: Governing substantive criminal offences.
- Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023: Addressing procedural law.
- Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023: Dictating the rules of evidence.
The academic exercise targets advanced legal themes, including homicide, criminal conspiracy, and the complexities of electronic evidence. Aspiring attorneys will be evaluated on their handling of forensic science integration and the preservation of constitutional safeguards during the arrest process. The event, supported by the GITAM Moot and Advocacy Committee, anticipates a high turnout from premier law institutions across India, testing the next generation of advocates on their mastery of appellate criminal jurisprudence.
