CPI Leadership Outlines National Strategy to Counter RSS Influence and Right-Wing Shift

A Call for Leftist Unity in the Face of Fascism
During an event at Ernakulam Town Hall on Monday, D. Raja, the national general secretary of the Communist Party of India (CPI), warned that India faces a profound crisis as right-wing communal entities attempt to re-engineer the nation's identity. Raja asserted that fascist elements now pose an direct danger to the Indian Constitution. He stressed that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has effectively taken control of government directives, extending its influence into the national educational curriculum.
Strategic Mobilization and Student Activism
Raja cited recent student protests—which resulted in the resignation of the Union Education Minister—as a blueprint for collective resistance. To further this momentum, the CPI has scheduled the following actions:
- August: Performance of a nationwide outreach campaign to document and address the specific grievances of the people.
- September: A mass rally in New Delhi designed to challenge the political grip of the BJP-RSS coalition.
State secretary Binoy Viswam noted that the recent student-led demonstrations shattered the perception of the current government's invincibility. He specifically referenced the disciplined nature of the youth movement, comparing their resilience to that of a cockroach, which is known for its ability to survive extreme conditions.
The Legacy of P.K. Vasudevan Nair
The gathering served as a commemoration for former Chief Minister P.K. Vasudevan Nair (PKV). Raja described PKV as a leader of unwavering ideological integrity who prioritized party objectives over personal political power. Leaders at the event highlighted PKV's early environmental advocacy, specifically his support for the Silent Valley project, as evidence of his willingness to evolve for the public good. CPI(M) State secretary M.V. Govindan also addressed the assembly, reinforcing the need for cohesive Leftist cooperation to preserve the democratic framework established during the independence movement.
