CPI Denounces BJP for Honoring Former Education Minister After Resignation

Communist Party of India (CPI) national secretary K. Ramakrishna launched a scathing critique of the BJP on Tuesday, labeling the decision to felicitate former Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in Parliament as "shameful." The honor follows Pradhan's resignation, which the CPI attributes to 49 days of relentless nationwide demonstrations and police confrontations led by students protesting irregularities in the education sector.

Critique of Ideological Appointments and Policy

Ramakrishna questioned the Prime Minister's decision to maintain the Education Ministry under the influence of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). He challenged the administration to explain why a secular representative from within the NDA coalition was not selected for the role. The party's grievances extend beyond personnel, targeting the systemic structures of Indian education:

• Dissolution of the NTA: The CPI demands the total abolition of the National Testing Agency following recent controversies.
• Repeal of NEP-2020: The party calls for the withdrawal of the National Education Policy, alleging it facilitates both the commercialization and "saffronization" of the school system.
• Support for Direct Action: Ramakrishna expressed formal alignment with the "Cockroach" protests currently organized by students.

Accountability for NEET Protest Crackdown

The CPI leadership is demanding immediate legal relief for students who faced charges during the NEET paper leak demonstrations. According to Ramakrishna, the central government has reneged on a previous commitment to drop these cases. Additionally, the party is seeking the suspension of BJP MP Vishweshwar Reddy, citing his disparaging remarks regarding the student protesters. Ramakrishna directed specific criticism toward Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for their handling of the ongoing unrest, characterizing the recent celebrations of Pradhan as a direct affront to those demanding transparency.
