NITI Aayog Health Leadership Evaluates Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone’s Global Scale Model

A high-level delegation from NITI Aayog, led by Health Member M. Srinivas, conducted a formal assessment of the Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ) on July 28, 2026. The visit focused on the facility's multidisciplinary ecosystem, which integrates research and development, diagnostic manufacturing, and artificial intelligence within a unified production landscape. Jitendra Sharma, the founder CEO and Managing Director, hosted the officials to demonstrate how the zone bridges the gap between laboratory concepts and large-scale commercialization.
The delegation examined several specialized units during the inspection, including:
- MediValley and BioValley: Hubs focused on incubation and biological innovation.
- Bharat Limb Centre (BLC): A facility dedicated to prosthetic development.
- Center of Excellence (COE): A technical unit for advanced medical engineering.
Overcoming Barriers to Market Entry
Discussions between government officials and zone leadership centered on the specific hurdles facing domestic startups. By providing shared infrastructure and regulatory guidance, AMTZ addresses typical bottlenecks in manufacturing scale and market access. M. Srinivas described the facility as a benchmark for collaborative success between the state, academia, and private industry. He specifically identified Jitendra Sharma as the primary architect of the initiative, noting that the model provides a blueprint for similar ecosystems throughout India.
Global Partnerships and Emergency Response
Beyond local manufacturing, the NITI Aayog representatives reviewed international dimensions of the zone's operations. This included briefings with the World Health Innovation Forum (WHIF) regarding cross-border healthcare alliances. The delegation also audited the Universal BioMed Cross (UBMC), a specialized division managed by AMTZ to handle biomedical emergency responses. According to Sharma, the zone functions on the principle that innovation succeeds only when clinicians, researchers, and manufacturers operate within a singular, cohesive framework to strengthen India's status in the global medical technology market.
