Logistical and Nutritional Support for the 32-km Trek

As lakhs of devotees descended upon Visakhapatnam for the annual Simhachalam Giri Pradakshina on Tuesday, a network of community groups established a massive support infrastructure along the 32-kilometer route. To mitigate the physical toll of the Guru Purnima pilgrimage, organizations provided a consistent supply of hydration and nutrition. CREDAI Visakhapatnam deployed volunteers to distribute 10,000 packets containing buttermilk and fruit as part of its corporate social responsibility program. Stations were positioned at high-traffic intervals to offer immediate relief and basic medical assistance to those undertaking the rigorous walk.

Extensive Relief Operations by Community Groups

The Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisations maintained a continuous service operation that began on July 28 and lasted through the morning of July 29. Their volunteers focused on sustained energy needs, serving a variety of food items including:

  • Breakfast and Pulihora
  • Boiled chickpeas and biscuits
  • Tea and buttermilk
  • Herbal sesame oil foot massages for fatigued pilgrims
  • Topical pain-relief balms

Similarly, the Tamil Kalai Mandram from Seethammadhara utilized donor support and Tamil community volunteers to supply energy drinks, potable water, and prasadam to thousands of participants. The organization confirmed that these humanitarian efforts would remain a staple of their community outreach.

Political and Local Involvement

Local associations also played a visible role in the event's logistics. The Mudusarlova Walkers Association coordinated its own prasadam distribution, drawing the participation of former Mayor Golagani Hari Venkata Kumari Srinivas. During the event, Srinivas noted the massive scale of the pilgrimage, which draws crowds from throughout Andhra Pradesh and adjacent states. The presence of these diverse groups transformed the 32-km path into a corridor of civic cooperation, ensuring that despite the overcrowding and physical strain, basic necessities remained accessible to the faithful.
