Chief Minister Releases M. Leelvathi's Mahabharata Critique 'Bharathalokam'

Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan officially released the new book titled 'Bharathalokam' by literary critic M. Leelvathi at her residence in Thrikkakara, Kochi, on Wednesday. The publication offers a critical interpretation of the Mahabharata, focusing on its characters and episodes.

Mr. Satheesan expressed pride in releasing the work of the 98-year-old author, highlighting her extensive research. He remarked that such critical analyses of the epic are rare, drawing parallels to earlier works by critics Kuttikrishna Marar and P.K. Balakrishnan, while noting Ms. Leelvathi's distinct approach.

Ms. Leelvathi stated that the Mahabharata's core message is an anti-war sentiment. She referenced the epic's author, Vedavyasa, who, according to her, lamented that his calls for peace went unheeded. The author emphasized that the suffering caused by war, particularly to women and children, remains a relevant and devastating aspect of conflict.

The ceremonial release involved the Chief Minister presenting a copy of 'Bharathalokam' to literary critic N.E. Sudheer. Also in attendance were Minister for Fisheries V.E. Abdul Gafoor, MLA Uma Thomas, and Kalamassery municipality chairperson Jamal Manakkadan.
