BRS Leaders Accuse Telangana Govt of Land Acquisition Irregularities for Irrigation Project

Former legislators of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) have formally complained to the Lok Ayukta regarding alleged significant irregularities in the process of acquiring land for the Makthal-Narayanpet-Kodangal Lift Irrigation Scheme. The complaint, lodged in Hyderabad on Thursday, accuses government officials and Congress leaders of collaborating to commit fraud.

According to the BRS leaders, the scheme involves creating fraudulent land ownership documents to misappropriate funds. They stated that the list of families displaced by the project has been altered three times, which they believe is evidence of planned malfeasance. The transfer of a District Collector involved in the land acquisition process within two months was also highlighted as suspicious.

Additionally, concerns were raised about the project's technical feasibility and regulatory compliance. The BRS leaders questioned the plan to divert 7 tmc ft of water from a reservoir with only a 1 tmc ft capacity, noting the extended time required to fill the reservoir. They also alleged that the project has not yet obtained necessary environmental clearance or approvals from the Central Water Commission.

The former MLAs also cited alleged large-scale irregularities in land acquisition for the Lagcherla Industrial Corridor.
