Ather Energy Deploys Fleet Intelligence to Map Road Hazards for Electric Scooters
Bengaluru-based Ather Energy has launched Pothole+ Alerts, a system using real-time fleet data to warn riders of road hazards. The software identifies surface irregularities and suggests smoother routes for Gen2 scooter owners.
Data-Driven Navigation for Urban Infrastructure
Ather Energy, the Bengaluru-based electric vehicle manufacturer, has officially rolled out its Pothole+ Alerts system. This technology utilizes anonymized data harvested from the company’s connected scooter fleet to identify and broadcast the location of road hazards. Owners of Gen2 models, specifically the Ather 450 Apex, 450X, and Rizta Z, will now receive real-time notifications regarding:
- Potholes and broken road segments
- Sudden speed breakers
- Severely uneven surfaces
Beyond immediate warnings, the system assists with pre-trip planning by recommending the smoothest available route before the rider departs.
A Decade of Data Development
According to Ather co-founder and CEO Tarun Mehta, the feature represents nearly nine years of technical development. Mehta noted that while the concept was straightforward, the execution relied entirely on achieving a specific volume of data. The company needed a substantial fleet of connected vehicles consistently traversing the same metropolitan arteries to build the necessary intelligence levels for accurate hazard identification.
Integration and User Interface
The alerts function through a dual-delivery method to ensure rider awareness without compromising safety. Information appears visually on the scooter’s dashboard interface, while audio warnings are transmitted via the vehicle's speakers or to a rider's connected Bluetooth headset. The rollout, announced on July 30, 2026, marks an expansion of the software capabilities for Ather's current hardware lineup.
