Andhra Pradesh Secures ₹5,750 Crore in Renewable Investments for Rayalaseema
IT and HRD Minister Nara Lokesh will initiate two major clean energy projects by Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited in Anantapur and Kurnool. These facilities aim to power large-scale industries and generate 4,000 construction jobs.
Energy Expansion in Anantapur and Kurnool
IT and HRD Minister Nara Lokesh is scheduled to initiate construction on July 30 for two significant clean energy facilities in the Rayalaseema region. Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) is spearheading these developments with a total investment of ₹5,350 crore. The projects collectively represent 800 MW of capacity designed to satisfy the power demands of the state’s expanding industrial sector.
Infrastructure and Technical Specifications
The investment is split between two distinct technologies and locations:
- Kanekal, Anantapur district: A 400-MW wind power facility requiring ₹3,500 crore, developed in technical partnership with Suzlon. It covers 760 acres.
- Pattikonda, Kurnool district: A 400-MW solar power plant with a ₹2,250 crore budget. This installation spans 2,700 acres.
Both sites have already secured 800 MW Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) connectivity via the Anantapur-II and Kurnool-4 CTUIL substations. This integration allows for the smooth distribution of generated power into the national grid.
Economic Impact and Policy Alignment
The coalition government is utilizing the AP Integrated Clean Energy Policy–2024 to position Rayalaseema as a central node for renewable power. This strategy follows existing regional operations by firms such as ReNew Power and SAEL. Beyond industrial utility, the TPREL initiatives are expected to create roughly 4,000 jobs during the construction phase. Additionally, the projects offer long-term financial stability to over 1,100 local agricultural families through land-related income and steady security.
