Andhra Pradesh Commission to Launch Major Crackdown on Child Labor and Trafficking

Coordinated Strategy to Curb Juvenile Exploitation
The Andhra Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (APSCPCR) is preparing to launch a large-scale enforcement operation aimed at dismantling child labor networks and recovering missing minors. This initiative integrates the efforts of the Child Helpline-1098, state police, railway authorities, and the Women and Child Welfare department. Beyond rescue missions, the commission intends to prioritize parental reunification and expanded counseling services for victims.
APSCPCR Chairman Vetukuri A.V.S.S.N. Raju detailed these plans on Wednesday following an extensive two-day inspection of the district’s infrastructure, including social welfare hostels, Anganwadi centers, and children's homes. The review meeting included District Collector Himanshu Shukla, ICDS Project Director Hena Sujan, District Child Protection Officer Suresh, and APSCPCR Member K.G.V. Padma Latha.
Addressing Modern Risks and Criminal Influence
Raju highlighted a concerning trend where minors are increasingly drawn into illicit activities. The commission has completed an analytical study focusing on the intersection of social media influence and juvenile crime. Key points of the upcoming government report include:
- Evidence-based strategies to counter child involvement in trafficking drugs, marijuana, and alcohol.
- Actionable recommendations to mitigate the adverse psychological impact of digital platforms.
- Measures to prevent child marriage and workplace harassment.
"There is no compromise in protecting child rights," Raju stated, urging the public to utilize the 1098 helpline to report any violations. The Chairman emphasized that the commission is committed to a zero-tolerance policy against those facilitating child marriages or employing minors in illegal labor.
Educational Access and Resource Oversight
A central component of the new action plan involves auditing the education sector to ensure compliance with mandatory seat allocations for underprivileged students in both state-run and private institutions. Additionally, the commission will oversee the distribution of welfare funds to prevent misappropriation. Raju confirmed that a state-wide awareness campaign is forthcoming, designed to educate the youth on the dangers of substance abuse and the behavioral shifts driven by social media consumption.
