AISA Demands End to Alleged Nationwide Suppression of Student Protesters

Contradictions in Government Assurances
The All India Students' Association (AISA) convened at the Press Club of India on July 28, 2026, to challenge the Union Government's handling of student activists. Despite official pledges that peaceful protesters would not face punitive measures, student leaders presented evidence of an ongoing crackdown. National president Neha and Delhi University secretary Anjali stated that students across various states are currently facing systematic police intervention for their involvement in demonstrations against examination paper leaks.
Regional Crackdowns and Legal Challenges
The situation appears most severe in Bihar and the national capital. According to a fact-finding report released during the briefing, Bihar authorities have detained numerous youth activists, including CPI(ML) Liberation MLA Sandeep Saurav. AISA representatives allege these individuals are being held under manufactured charges. The legal team, represented by advocate Manik Gupta, documented instances of arbitrary detention and physical injuries sustained by protesters in Delhi.
Specific Demands for Accountability
The organization is calling for an immediate halt to what they describe as a campaign of intimidation. Neha emphasized that the disconnect between the government's rhetoric and the reality on the ground has created a climate of fear. The leadership outlined three primary requirements for the administration:
- The immediate and unconditional release of all activists currently in custody.
- A moratorium on police actions targeting peaceful student demonstrators.
- A formal engagement with the student community regarding the integrity of national examinations.
Protest volunteer M. Junaid noted that the administration must honor its commitment to democratic dissent rather than resorting to repressive tactics. The association maintains that the state is using legal mechanisms to suppress legitimate grievances regarding educational transparency.
