AI Flags Massive Data Irregularities in Bengaluru Electoral Roll Revision
State officials have identified over 6.41 lakh technical anomalies during the digitization of electoral forms in Bengaluru. Intelligence software is currently auditing records for demographic duplications and biological impossibilities ahead of the draft roll publication.
Digitization Phase Unearths Extensive Data Discrepancies
The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has revealed that 6.41 lakh logical discrepancies have surfaced during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision. As of Saturday afternoon, only 38.81% of enumeration forms had reached the digitization stage. Within the broader GBA figures, approximately 2.66 lakh anomalies originate specifically from the Bengaluru Urban district. While the GBA reports these figures daily, the statewide progress report currently excludes this specific data category.
Artificial Intelligence and Demographic Auditing
Senior officials confirmed that Artificial Intelligence is driving the identification of these irregularities. Once Booth Level Officers (BLOs) submit digitized forms, the AI system utilizes a Demographic Similar Entries (DSE) tool to cross-reference the database. This software flags potential duplicate voters who share identical names, parental details, or other demographic markers. However, the technology has also highlighted physiological inconsistencies in the records, such as progeny born to the same parent within a gap of less than nine months.
Mapping Hurdles and Data Scrubbing Plans
Beyond technical anomalies, the GBA faces significant challenges with 15.83 lakh voters classified as unmapped. These individuals submitted forms without the required 2002 electoral roll details, often due to an inability to locate historical records. Common discrepancies currently flagged include:
- Spelling variations across different identification documents.
- Discrepancies regarding the expansion of initials.
- Logical errors in family tree timelines.
Chief Electoral Officer V. Anbu Kumar noted that a definitive count of anomalies will materialize only upon the publication of the draft electoral rolls for the 1.03 crore electorate. To ensure accuracy, authorities plan a data scrubbing exercise similar to protocols used in West Bengal. This process aims to eliminate false positives generated by the AI before a final mechanical review of the remaining records takes place.
