During the meeting, Adhikari confirmed a state-level ex-gratia payment of ₹5 lakh for each affected family, alongside a direct employment offer for one eligible family member as a civic volunteer. Infrastructure Overhaul for Coastal Defense

In an analysis of existing maritime gaps, the Chief Minister criticized past administrative neglect regarding coastal emergencies. To address these failings, he announced a restructuring of specialized police units and emergency services:

• Quick Response Teams: A new 50-member squad under the disaster management department will be stationed to cover Digha and adjacent coastal sectors for rapid deployment.
• Personnel Upgrades: Highly efficient officers will be reassigned to coastal police stations to replace current staffing arrangements.
• Technological Integration: Stations will receive advanced technological support to improve tracking and communication accuracy.

Chronology of the July 8 Incident

The tragedy began when a fishing vessel carrying crew members from Digha, Nadia, Howrah, East Medinipur, and Odisha lost contact shortly after departure. The vessel remained missing for six days until the Coast Guard located the wreckage on July 14, 2026. Adhikari emphasized that the new administrative measures aim to eliminate the delays that hampered the initial rescue efforts, stating that the government now views proactive maritime safety as a direct state responsibility.
