As the August 1 inauguration of the Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram approaches, the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) has finalized several large-scale infrastructure projects. Commissioner N. Tej Bharath announced on July 28, 2026, that the agency focused on seven arterial routes designed to facilitate transit between Visakhapatnam and the new aviation hub.
Strategic Road Corridors and National Highway Links
The development strategy involved a mix of new construction and facility upgrades. Commissioner Bharath detailed the specific project breakdown:
- Direct Road Development: VMRDA executed four primary road corridors specifically engineered to interface with the National Highway.
- Network Integration: Three additional arterial roads were upgraded to ensure the region's existing grid supports the projected increase in traffic volume toward Bhogapuram.
Eliminating Navigation Hurdles via Google Maps
To prevent logistical confusion for travelers, the VMRDA has digitized its jurisdictional infrastructure. The authority integrated 10 distinct zonal maps into the Google Maps platform. This technological alignment aims to provide commuters with accurate, live directions and reliable route data starting from the airport's opening date. By mapping these specific corridors, officials expect to reduce congestion on secondary roads and streamline the approach to the Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport.
