Compassionate Appointments Amid Political Contention

Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay is scheduled to meet with the families of 32 victims who lost their lives in a September 27, 2025, stampede during a Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party rally. During this encounter at the Karur District Collectorate, the Chief Minister will formally issue government job appointment orders to the kin of the deceased. These positions, distributed on compassionate grounds, span various state departments according to the individual educational backgrounds of the recipients.

This administrative move follows significant friction with the judiciary and political rivals. The Madras High Court previously struck down orders related to these specific job grants. Furthermore, the decision has drawn sharp criticism from the CPI and CPI(M), who oppose the TVK administration's strategy of utilizing public sector roles as compensation for casualties sustained during a partisan political event.

Major Footwear Investment Set for Manavasi

Beyond the relief efforts, the Chief Minister's itinerary includes a high-stakes industrial launch designed to bolster the local economy. Mr. Vijay will lay the foundation stone for a new manufacturing facility by Evervan Kothari Footwear Private Limited. The project involves a ₹1,700 crore investment and will be located at Manavasi, situated near Krishnarayapuram.

Regional economic indicators for the project include:

  • Construction of a specialized non-leather footwear production hub.
  • Anticipated job creation for approximately 13,500 residents.
  • Direct stimulation of the manufacturing corridor between Tiruchi and Karur.

Logistics of the Inaugural Official Tour

The Chief Minister’s travel schedule begins with a morning flight from Chennai to Tiruchi on July 10, followed by a road journey to reach Karur by 11:00 a.m. This visit signifies his first official appearance in the district since assuming his leadership role on May 10. Following the formal ceremonies at the Collectorate, Mr. Vijay will transition to a political engagement, addressing a TVK public meeting on the outskirts of Karur city.
