Vellore North police officials successfully identified and detained 23-year-old L. Gautam, an autorickshaw driver residing in Kagithapattarai, following an act of vandalism at a public sector ATM. The incident took place at a kiosk located on Arcot Road, specifically within the Kagithapattarai area. After a formal complaint from the bank management, a specialized police unit examined CCTV recordings to track the suspect to his hideout within the town.
Lack of Security and Proximity to Liquor Outlets Cited
Preliminary investigations provide a background for the security breach at the facility. Investigators noted the following factors regarding the incident:
- The ATM kiosk operated without active security guards on the premises.
- The site is situated near three Tasmac retail outlets.
- Gautam reportedly utilized the unguarded kiosk to consume alcohol days prior to the damage.
Authorities allege that Gautam smashed the windowpanes of the facility during a sudden outburst of anger. Following his apprehension, the suspect was processed and moved to the Central Prison in Vellore.
