UP Social Welfare Initiative: 31 Students from Underserved Families Clear NEET and JEE
A specialized State-run academic hub in Mirzapur has enabled dozens of students from disadvantaged backgrounds to secure spots in elite medical and engineering programs. The results highlight a successful public model for providing competitive exam preparation without cost.
Public-Sector Academic Success in Mirzapur
The Uttar Pradesh Department of Social Welfare confirmed on Monday that its Centre of Excellence at Jai Prakash Narayan Sarvodaya Balika Vidyalaya in Marihan has produced 31 successful candidates in India's most competitive entrance exams. According to official data, 18 students qualified for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and 13 cleared the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) for engineering.
This institution, one of 103 Sarvodaya Schools across the state, operates with an intake of 40 students. The facility provides free residential schooling alongside specialized coaching, featuring regular testing, modern pedagogy, and expert mentorship to bridge the gap for those who cannot afford private preparation centers.
Top Performers in Medical and Engineering Streams
In the medical stream, Pooja Ranjan led the group with a NEET score of 413. Other notable qualifiers include Shweta Pal (372), Khushboo (359), and Laxmi Rawat (344). The list of successful medical candidates also features Malti, Ankita, Anita, Manisha, Premlata, Ankita Kumari, Komal, Sapna, Anshika, Priyanka, Phool Kumari, Anuradha, Khushi, and Anchal.
The center’s engineering wing showed equal strength, with 13 students passing the JEE Main. Significant highlights from this cohort include:
- Preeti and Damini: Both selected for the Integrated BBA-MBA Programme at IIT Mandi.
- Advanced Qualification: Preeti successfully cleared the JEE Advanced hurdle.
- Regional Representation: Successful candidates included Damini Patel and Srishti from Marihan; Vikas Yadav and Ankit Singh from Deoria; Abhishek Mishra from Barabanki; Amit Kumar from Basti; and Rishikesh Bharti from Mirzapur.
A Framework for Social Mobility
State officials emphasize that these results reflect a steady upward trajectory for the program. The 2025 cycle previously saw 11 students qualify for NEET and 11 for JEE, figures that have been surpassed in the latest session. By providing high-level resources to students often sidelined by financial constraints, the Department of Social Welfare aims to ensure that merit, rather than economic status, determines academic trajectory. The program integrates career counseling and personality development into its core curriculum to prepare students for the rigors of professional higher education.
