UP’s 4,200-Crore Expressway Exhibits Structural Damage Within Two Weeks of Opening
The Lucknow-Kanpur expressway has developed significant surface fissures just twelve days after its high-profile inauguration. Authorities are now investigating the construction quality of the infrastructure project following the heavy investment of state funds.

Immediate Structural Failure Post-Launch
Only twelve days after its ceremonial opening, the Lucknow-Kanpur expressway is showing visible signs of structural distress. Cracks have emerged across several segments of the newly paved surface, raising concerns over the durability of the high-budget transit link between the two major cities.
A High-Profile Infrastructure Launch
The project, which carries a total cost of Rs 4,200 crore, was officially opened on July 13. The inauguration event featured a delegation of top-tier officials, including:
- Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh
- Rajnath Singh, Union Defence Minister
- Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways
Despite the presence of senior government leadership at the launch, the rapid deterioration of the roadway has triggered questions regarding contractor accountability and oversight during the construction phase. Engineers are expected to assess whether local environmental factors or material deficiencies contributed to the early fatigue of the pavement.
