Final Stages of Federal Investigation

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) informed a specialized Bhopal court on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, that its inquiry into the death of model and actress Twisha Sharma is approaching its conclusion. Representing the victim's family, attorney Ankur Pandey confirmed that Justice Ram Pratap Mishra granted the agency's request for additional time to finalize procedural formalities. Consequently, the court extended the judicial custody of the primary suspects through August 11, the same date set for the agency to submit its formal chargesheet.

Custody Renewed via Videoconference

Retired judge Giribala Singh and her son, Samarth Singh, appeared before the Bhopal District and Sessions Court through a video link from detention. The two face significant allegations including:

• Dowry-related harassment
• Systematic mental abuse
• Domestic violence

The case stems from the May 12 discovery of Twisha Sharma’s body at her marital residence. Following the death, the victim's relatives successfully petitioned the Madhya Pradesh High Court for a deeper investigation, citing fundamental flaws in the initial local police inquiry and the original post-mortem report.

Judicial Rigor and Forensic Oversight

The High Court previously shifted the momentum of the case by mandating a second post-mortem examination, conducted by experts at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi. This forensic development eventually led to the CBI taking over the case file. On July 25, the special court denied a bail application filed by Giribala Singh, with the presiding judge characterizing the nature of the criminal charges as inherently serious.
