Three-day ‘Jyeshtabhishekam’ begins at Sri Govindaraja Swamy temple in Tirupati

The three-day annual ‘Jyeshtabhishekam’ ritual began at the TTD-run Sri Govindaraja Swamy temple in Tirupati on Friday.

The event is traditionally observed in the month of ‘Ashada’, which involves removal of the sacred armours (kavacham) covering the deities, conduct of special prayers to them, and donning them once again on the third day.

Following Suprabhata Seva and other daily rituals, the priests performed ‘Shata Kalasa Snapanam’ and ‘Mahashanti Homam’ as per Agama traditions.

A celestial bath, ‘Snapana Tirumanjanam’, was performed to the processional deities of Sri Govindaraja and of His consorts Sridevi and Bhudevi with milk, curd, honey, sandalwood, turmeric and coconut water. Special prayers were offered to the sacred armours as part of ‘Kavachadhivasam’ ceremony.

Pedda Jeeyangar and Chinna Jeeyangar, the senior and junior pontiffs of the Tirumala-Tirupati temples, took part in the event.
