Yadav Accuses Bihar Police of Shielding LJP Legislator in Municipal Officer Murder Case

Background

Vimal Kumar, the Executive Officer of the Dalmianagar Municipal Council, was beaten to death on August 1, 2026. The fatal assault occurred in the Aurangabad district while the official was traveling from Rohtas to his residence in Patna. Following the incident, police arrested Kumar’s driver, Mithilesh Kumar, citing workplace frustration and denied leave as the primary motives for the killing. However, the victim’s widow, Babita Kumari, has publicly challenged this narrative, claiming an influential politician orchestrated the attack.

Political Ties Under Scrutiny

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav has intensified pressure on the state administration, alleging that Magadh Range Inspector General Vikas Vaibhav is obstructing justice. During a press conference at his Patna residence on August 4, Yadav highlighted a close personal and professional association between the I-G and LJP (RV) MLA Rajiv Ranjan Singh, also known as Sonu Singh. Yadav noted that the MLA frequently attends events organized by the I-G’s private forum, 'Let’s Inspire Bihar,' and suggested the legislator may even fund these activities.

The Leader of the Opposition criticized the I-G for publicly declaring the driver as the sole culprit before forensic or postmortem reports were finalized. Yadav characterized the police logic—that a driver would commit murder due to a heavy workload—as absurd and warned that such a precedent would imply staff could target high-ranking officials over simple labor disputes.
