Teenager Detained Following Triple Homicide at Seattle Food Festival

Investigation Targets Juvenile and Second Fugitive

Mayor Katie Wilson confirmed on July 27, 2026, that a 15-year-old male is in juvenile custody following a mass casualty shooting at the Seattle Center. The teenager faces potential charges of first-degree assault and firearms violations. While one suspect surrendered at the scene of the Bite of Seattle event, law enforcement officials continue to search for a second individual. Seattle Assistant Police Chief Tyrone Davis explained that detectives believe the two suspects were engaged in a shootout with one another. Although one gunman remains at large, Davis stated there is no immediate evidence of a continuing threat to the general public.

Casualties and Medical Status

The violence, which erupted around 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, claimed three lives. The victims identified include two men, aged 19 and 44, and a 56-year-old woman. Two individuals died at the festival grounds, while the third succumbed to injuries at a local hospital. Four additional attendees were hospitalized during the chaos:

• A two-year-old boy, currently in satisfactory condition as of Monday.
• A 23-year-old man, a 27-year-old man, and a 39-year-old woman, all of whom have been discharged.

Officials have not yet determined if any of the casualties were unintended bystanders or participants in the initial dispute.

Witnesses Recount Mid-Festival Chaos

The gunfire occurred during the final hours of the annual three-day culinary event, which typically attracts 350,000 visitors. Witness Estan Wakonabo described a scene of immediate panic where crowds pushed past one another, strollers were overturned, and attendees dove for cover. Another witness, Faith Adia Hunter, reported that she and her companions fled into the Seattle Children’s Museum to escape the barrage. Vendor Roberto Ramirez noted that the area, once bustling with hundreds of food and retail booths, was vacated almost instantly as people realized the sounds were gunshots rather than firecrackers.

Recovery and Response

Dozens of security personnel and police officers were already on-site when the shooting began, and some reported seeing at least one suspect discharge a weapon. By Monday, vendors were permitted to return to the Seattle Center campus to collect equipment and inventory abandoned during the evacuation. A candlelight vigil is scheduled at the International Fountain on Monday night to honor those killed in the attack.
