Protesters Call for Restoration of State Powers in Education
Movement members of the Tamil Nadu Students Youth Federation (TSYF) took to the streets on Sunday, marching from Pudupet to Rajarathinam Stadium to demand a permanent end to the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). A primary objective of the demonstration was the repatriation of the Education Department to the direct control of the State government, a move protesters argue is necessary to ensure fair academic access.
Accountability Sought for NTA and Law Enforcement
The rally focused heavily on the perceived systemic failures of the National Testing Agency (NTA). Marchers demanded the total dissolution of the agency, citing its inability to prevent examination paper leaks. Beyond administrative reforms, the crowd sought legal redress for colleagues involved in national demonstrations, specifically requesting:
- Action against police officers accused of assaulting student protesters at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.
- The immediate withdrawal of First Information Reports (FIRs) registered against student activists.
Participants carried placards throughout the Egmore area, emphasizing that the current centralized testing model lacks integrity. The federation maintains that the agency’s recent track record justifies a complete overhaul of the medical entrance process to protect student interests.
