1. DMK MLA Anitha Radhakrishnan arrested over remarks against CM Vijay

Tiruchendur DMK MLA and former Fisheries Minister Anitha R. Radhakrishnan was arrested at Authoor in Thoothukudi district today (July 3, 2026) for allegedly making remarks against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay during a public meeting held on June 20.

The arrest came shortly after the Madras High Court dismissed an anticipatory bail plea filed by Mr. Radhakrishnan in a case registered by the Authoor police in Thoothukudi district over his remarks against the Chief Minister.

Mr. Radhakrishnan was taken to Thoothukudi District Superintendent of Police office for investigation.

2. Ammonia gas leak: Toll rises to 18; chemical to be removed

The toll in the ammonia leak at a seafood processing and export facility in Tiruvallur district last month has risen to 18, with the death of one more hospitalised woman migrant worker today.

Meanwhile, Tiruvallur district authorities have declared a 500-metre radius around the seafood processing plant as a restricted zone ahead of a planned ammonia removal operation scheduled for tomorrow and the day after.

3. DMK moves SC to bar TVK leaders from making statements on Karur stampede

The DMK has moved the Supreme Court seeking a judicial direction to bar the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leaders, including Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay and Minister Adhav Arjuna, from making “threatening” public statements or levelling “false accusations” against political opponents in connection with the Karur stampede during the ongoing CBI investigation.

4. Vaigaichelvan quits AIADMK

Former Tamil Nadu Minister for School Education S.S. Vaigaichelvan announced his decision to quit the AIADMK.

In a letter addressed to the party general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami, he said the party had lost “individuality” by “seeking to compromise itself with the DMK.” It had also “deviated from the path” towards victory.

5. TVK MLA bribery case: Senthilbalaji’s brother Ashok Kumar moves Madras HC for anticipatory bail

DMK MLA V. Senthilbalaji’s brother R.V. Ashok Kumar has approached the Madras High Court seeking anticipatory bail in a case registered against him for having allegedly offered a bribe of ₹35 crore to Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) MLA N. Elaiyaraja, representing the Uthangarai constituency.
