1. Former AIADMK Minister C. Vijayabaskar, senior leaders join TVK

The exodus of influential regional leaders from the AIADMK continued today (July 2, 2026), with former Health Minister C. Vijayabaskar, former Transport Minister M.R. Vijayabhaskar, several other senior functionaries and thousands of cadres joining Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay-led Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), dealing a fresh blow to the Dravidian major.

2. Jana Nayagan leak case: ‘1.2 crore people watched Vijay-starrer online’

The Madras High Court refused to grant bail to two of the 21 accused in Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay-starrer Jana Nayagan leak case, after being told by the prosecution that as many as 1.2 crore people had watched the movie online even before it could be certified for public exhibition by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and released officially.

Justice C. Kumarappan dismissed the bail petitions filed by the fourth accused S. Rajini and 11th accused Jayaprakash after taking note of the serious charge that the first petitioner’s brother, who was a freelance film editor and the prime accused in the case, had stolen the movie clips in a hard drive from an edit suite and thereafter, the movie had been uploaded in full to Google drive.

3. Madras High Court refuses to quash case against Ponmudy

The Madras High Court refused to set aside a private complaint lodged by the BJP’s councillor in the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC), Uma Anandan, against former DMK) Minister K. Ponmudy for the derogatory comments he made last year against Saivites, Vaishnavites, and women.

4. ‘Jailer 2’ gets release date

The release date of actor Rajinikanth’s upcoming film, Jailer 2, was announced by the makers by unveiling a promo. The Nelson directorial will be released in theatres on October 15 this year.
