Tamil Nadu law enforcement recently concluded a comprehensive week-long initiative aimed at curbing habitual criminal activity, resulting in the arrest of 1,155 individuals. The operation, which commenced on July 15, targeted history-sheeters and repeat offenders across the state. Under the direct oversight of Director-General of Police and Head of Police Force Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal, specialized teams maintained close surveillance on a pool of more than 30,000 persons with documented criminal backgrounds.
Execution of Warrants and Legal Sanctions
According to official data released by police headquarters, the drive led to the successful execution of 2,906 non-bailable warrants. The authorities adopted a strict legal stance toward individuals who disregarded judicial requirements. Highlights of the legal proceedings include:
- Registration of cases under Section 269 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against suspects who failed to appear in court following bail or bond releases.
- Specific directives issued to City Police Commissioners and District Superintendents to monitor bail compliance.
- Initiation of proceedings to cancel bail for those who violated court-mandated conditions or engaged in fresh criminal acts.
The directive extended to all special units, mandating immediate legal action against any offender continuing to disrupt public order. This systemic sweep marks a significant effort by the department to clear a backlog of outstanding warrants while proactively managing known threats to public safety.
