This transition marks a departure from the traditional quarters at Fort St. George, moving the nerve center of the state executive to a more expansive facility within the Secretariat complex. Government officials cite persistent space limitations and the need for better administrative flow as the primary catalysts for the move.

The relocation necessitates a significant reshuffling of existing departments to accommodate the new Chief Minister’s Office (CMO). Public administration changes include:
- Information and Public Relations: This department, along with the CMO’s Social Media Wing, will move from their current 10th-floor posts to the Kalaivanar Arangam.
- Tourism Department: The Stationery section of this division is slated for a move to the ninth floor of Namakkal Kavignar Maligai.
Historically, the CMO has largely remained at Fort St. George, with the only notable exception being a short tenure at the Anna Salai Secretariat building.
