State-level inter-school athletics event begins at Velammal Grounds

The State level inter-school athletics competitions began at Velammal Grounds in Madurai on Friday.
The two-day track and other events witness participants from over 500 schools, including government institutions, which are being organised by Tamil Nadu Athletics Association and Velammal Sports Academy.
According to the organisers, 4,000 students in four categories of age group namely 10, 12, 14 and 17 years are participating in the competitions, which has 76 events.
At the inaugural session, Velammal Group of Institutions Chairman M.V. Muthuramalingam said that they were ready to encourage young talent and wished the participants to give their best efforts.
Additional Commissioner Income Tax S. Michael Jerald, Athletics Association State Secretary C. Latha and others offered felicitation.
