Spain Declares National Emergency Over Wildfires Amid Europe Heatwave
Spanish authorities have declared a national emergency as extreme heat across Europe fuels devastating wildfires. Thousands of residents and tourists have been displaced as emergency services struggle to contain the spreading blazes.
Spain has officialy declared a state of national emergency following a surge in wildfire activity triggered by a record-breaking heatwave across Southern Europe. Critical conditions have forced the deployment of military units to assist local firefighters in several regions.
In the west of Madrid, more than 10,000 residents were evacuated from their homes as a precaution against shifting wind patterns. Emergency crews are focusing their efforts on creating firebreaks to protect residential infrastructure from the approaching flames.
Neighboring France is experiencing similar extremes, with authorities ordering the total evacuation of nearly 40,000 people in the Cap Ferret peninsula. The coordinated response comes as temperatures continue to climb, leaving much of the continent under severe weather warnings.
