Indian discus thrower Seema Kaliramna finalized a remarkable sporting comeback on July 30, 2026, by securing a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games. The 27-year-old athlete from Bhiwani, Haryana, achieved a distance of 58.65m on her third attempt to cement third place. This performance follows a challenging period for the thrower, who paused her career to manage post-pregnancy complications, including arthritis and a persistent knee injury. Kaliramna, who resumed active competition only last year, now balances her athletic career with a PhD in Physical Education at Chaudhary Bansi Lal University.

Tactical Battles and Rankings

The competition in Glasgow saw Jamaica's Samantha Hall dominate the field to take gold with a 61.66m effort, followed by Canada’s Julia Tunks, who claimed silver with a 60.67m throw. While Kaliramna did not surpass her personal best of 59.73m—set earlier this year in Bhubaneswar—her consistency proved enough to outpace her fellow countrywoman, Nidhi Rani. Rani finished the event in fourth place after a top throw of 55.67m in the second round.

Kaliramna's journey toward the podium began precariously with a foul on her opening attempt. However, she stabilized with a 57.32m second throw before hitting her medal-winning mark. Despite fouling her final three attempts, her third-round distance remained unchallenged by the chasing pack. The athlete credited a pre-tournament training stint in Spala, Poland, for helping her adapt to the frigid conditions encountered in Scotland.
