Sauron Marches on Middle-earth: Simon Pegg Joins Revamped Rings of Power Cast
Amazon has revealed a high-stakes teaser for The Rings of Power Season 3, confirming Simon Pegg's arrival. The narrative jumps ahead five years as Sauron begins his quest to forge the One Ring.
Rising Stakes and New Arrivals
During a presentation at San Diego Comic-Con on July 24, Prime Video debuted the first look at the third installment of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. The production team confirmed that actor Simon Pegg has joined the ensemble, providing the voice for the Balrog. He is part of a wave of new casting choices that includes Eddie Marsan as Thrain, Andrew Richardson portraying Anarion, and Adam Young in the role of Marnûkh.
Returning cast members such as Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Owain Arthur, Ismael Cruz Cordova, Charlie Vickers, and Daniel Weyman lead the series through what showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay describe as a darker narrative shift. The production staff includes executive producers Lindsey Weber, Justin Doble, Kate Hazell, and director Charlotte Brändström, with Matthew Penry-Davey serving as producer.
A World Divided by War
The timeline for the third season resumes five years after the destruction of Eregion. During this period, Sauron’s forces have significantly expanded their reach across Middle-earth. The central plot focuses on Sauron’s efforts to create the One Ring, a move that forces a fragile coalition among Men, Elves, Dwarves, and Wizards.
