Repeat Offense Alleged Against Grandson of Late MP in Bengaluru Animal Abuse Case
Adi Narayana Naidu faces criminal charges following a July 24 incident where he reportedly ran over a community dog. This marks the second time the former MP's grandson has been implicated in a high-speed collision with an animal.
Incident Details and Charges
Bengaluru police have initiated a case against Adi Narayana Naidu for allegedly striking a community dog with his car in a narrow residential lane in Jayanagar. Naidu, the grandson of the late former MP and Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams chairman D.K. Adikesavulu Naidu, is accused of driving at high speed and deliberately swerving to hit the animal. The victim, a dog named Jackie cared for by local residents, sustained a fractured backbone and severe internal injuries during the encounter on July 24 between 3:20 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
The Siddapura Police Station registered the FIR following a formal complaint by Badari Prasad M.S., a volunteer with the Jayanagar Canine Squad. Authorities have invoked several legal provisions, including:
- Sections 281 and 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
- Section 11(1) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
Pattern of Conduct and Investigation
The complainant highlighted that this is not an isolated event. Naidu was previously apprehended in 2022 for a similar incident involving a sleeping community dog named Lara. Animal welfare activists categorize the accused as a habitual reckless driver, noting that in both instances, CCTV footage documented the collisions. In the current case, the driver allegedly left the scene without rendering aid or notifying emergency services.
Law enforcement officials have issued a formal notice to the car's registered owner, requiring an appearance before investigators. Detectives are currently reviewing security footage and witness testimonies to finalize their report. Jackie remains under medical supervision for the life-threatening injuries sustained.
