Railway Official Apprehended in Connection with Homicide of Elderly Tirupati Woman
Tirupati police arrested 36-year-old railway loco pilot Pasam Rupesh Kumar for the July 14 murder of M. Jyothi. The suspect allegedly utilized a burqa disguise and a stolen motorcycle to facilitate a robbery intended to settle personal debts.
Investigation Links Railway Employee to Targeted Killing
Law enforcement authorities in Tirupati have detained a railway loco pilot following the violent death of 69-year-old M. Jyothi. The victim was found dead at her residence in Sai Nagar on July 14. Investigators allege that Pasam Rupesh Kumar, a 36-year-old employee stationed at the Krishnapatnam railway facility, orchestrated the attack to seize the victim's valuables.
Superintendent of Police L. Subbarayudu detailed the suspect’s motive during a Sunday press conference, noting that Kumar aimed to liquidate his mounting debts. The accused, originally from Gudipallipadu in the Nellore Rural mandal, reportedly spent significant time building a rapport with Jyothi to gain unfettered access to her home. During the incident, Kumar allegedly made off with 90 grams of gold ornaments and ₹47,000 in currency. Police have since recovered jewelry valued at approximately ₹12 lakh.
Tactical Disguise Fails to Evade Digital Surveillance
The perpetrator employed several layers of deception to avoid detection during his transit between Krishnapatnam and Tirupati. The investigation revealed the following details regarding the suspect's movements:
- Vehicle Theft: Kumar allegedly stole a motorcycle from a colleague to distance himself from his own registered property.
- False Documentation: The suspect utilized a fraudulent registration plate on the stolen two-wheeler.
- Complex Disguise: To obscure his physical features, Kumar wore a burqa, a face mask, and a helmet simultaneously.
Despite these measures, Superintendent Subbarayudu confirmed that scientific evidence eventually exposed the suspect. Analysis of digital footprints and a comprehensive review of CCTV footage along the transit route allowed investigators to track Kumar’s movements and establish his presence at the crime scene. The Tirupati police successfully intercepted the suspect, bringing a brief period of uncertainty following the July murder to a close.
