Police Track Absconding Driver After Tractor Damaged YSR Memorial in Guntur
Pattabhipuram police are searching for a driver who fled after striking a statue platform at Sthambalagaruvu Centre. Authorities believe the Monday accident occurred when the vehicle lost control during a turn.
Hit-and-Run Incident at Sthambalagaruvu Centre
Attendants and residents at Guntur’s Sthambalagaruvu Centre witnessed a reckless hit-and-run on Monday when a tractor collided with the YSR statue platform located across from the Orion Hotel. The impact dislodged three significant stone blocks from the rear of the structure, causing them to collapse. Despite attempts by locals to intercept the vehicle, the unidentified driver continued without stopping, making a swift exit from the scene.
Police Findings and Investigation Status
The Pattabhipuram Police Station, operating under the Guntur West Sub-Divisional Police, has launched a formal inquiry into the crash. West DSP Bellam Srinivasa Rao noted that preliminary evidence suggests the collision resulted from a loss of control while the driver negotiated a turn. Key details of the investigation include:
- Evidence collection is currently underway at the crash site.
- Investigators are working to identify the specific tractor involved through local leads.
- Police have classified the event as an accident rather than a deliberate act of vandalism.
DSP Srinivasa Rao confirmed that the department will initiate legal proceedings once the driver is apprehended and the specific causes of the collision are verified. The search for the fugitive driver remains active as of Monday evening.
