Police Charge Hindu Aikya Vedi Leader Over Alleged Misinformation Video

Legal Action Against Misinformation Campaign

The Ernakulam Central police have initiated criminal proceedings against K.P. Sasikala, leader of the Hindu Aikya Vedi, alongside several unnamed supporters of the BJP and Congress. The case stems from the distribution of a video featuring Maneesha Radhakrishnan, a lawyer and district vice-president of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI). Authorities state the footage was falsely shared to suggest Radhakrishnan and her associates were the teachers recently apprehended in a narcotics investigation.

Allegations of Provocation and Targeted Harassment

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the accused shared the footage with the caption "MDMA comrades" and included inflammatory commentary. Police registered the case under Section 192 of the Bharatiya Nayaya Sanhita, which addresses the act of wantonly providing provocation with the intent to incite a riot. The complainant, Radhakrishnan, alleges that the digital manipulation and distribution were designed to malign her reputation and public standing.

Political and Legal Organizations Demand Accountability

The incident has sparked sharp criticism from local political leadership and legal bodies. CPI(M) district secretary S. Sathish denounced the cyber attack, characterizing it as a deliberate effort to harass women engaged in public life. Concurrently, the Ernakulam district committee of the All India Lawyers Union has called for swift police action to identify and arrest all individuals involved in the production and dissemination of the misleading content.
