Ozlo Pilots Next-Generation Sleepbuds with Enhanced Endurance and AI Ambitions
Startup Ozlo, led by veteran Bose engineers, has unveiled the Sleepbuds 2 with significant battery and connectivity upgrades. The $279 device signals the firm's transition from an IP successor toward a comprehensive biometric sleep platform.
Engineered for Endurance and Connectivity
Ozlo, the sleep technology firm founded by former Bose engineers N.B. Patil, Brian Mulcahey, and Charlie Taylor, announced the release of its Sleepbuds 2 on Tuesday. This second-generation wearable enters the market at $279, representing a 12% price hike over the original model. The hardware revision prioritizes internal longevity, boosting battery life to 14 hours per charge from the previous 10-hour limit. Furthermore, the redesigned charging case now holds sufficient power for up to three nights of use and introduces a physical interface button for managing alarms and audio without a smartphone.
Technical refinements address previous user feedback regarding wireless stability. The Sleepbuds 2 integrate a new antenna and extender system to improve Bluetooth range and pairing speed. To enhance the masking of environmental noise, the audio architecture now features a built-in amplifier and four distinct tuning profiles: Balanced, Spoken Word, Airplane, and Focus. A new "Sleep Shield" mode act as a digital gatekeeper, obstructing incoming notifications and calls independently of a smartphone's native focus settings.
From Noise Masking to Biometric Analysis
The company maintains the low-profile design that attracted its initial 200,000 customers, catering specifically to side sleepers who find standard earbuds like AirPods uncomfortable for overnight wear. However, Ozlo is shifting its focus toward high-fidelity data collection. The new hardware functions as a dual-sensor system:
- Wearable Biometrics: The earbuds track the user's breathing patterns and movement throughout the night.
- Environmental Monitoring: The charging case records ambient light levels, room temperature, and noise disturbances.
A Roadmap for AI Integration
Following their roadmap shared at the Consumer Electronics Show in January, Ozlo executives intend to transform the hardware into a specialized data platform. Future updates are expected to leverage artificial intelligence to interpret sleep patterns, possibly including an AI-driven "sleep buddy" for conversational data analysis. The Sleepbuds 2 package currently includes four sizes of silicone tips and a USB-C cable, with the company offering a promotional sleep mask and travel case for early adopters.
