All Motor Vehicles Association Coordination Committee on Thursday attempted to stage a protest against collection of toll on Vadugapatti-Therkku Venganallur stretch of highway, even as the other half stretch of the highway project between Tirumangalam and Vadugapatti was still under way.

However, officials pacified them.

Later, Sivakasi Sub-Collector, Mohammed Irfan, held talks with the agitators in the presence of officials from NHAI.

The agitators wanted to close down toll collection. They said that the toll plaza at Nathampatti was located within 60 km from Tirumangalam toll plaza which was against the NHAI stipulation.

They wanted NHAI to collect toll only after the entire stretch seamlessly became fourway highway. The agitators also sought exemption from payment of toll for vehicles registered in Srivilliputtur and Virudhunagar Regional Transport Offices.

The officials have sought time to decide on the issue.
