Member of NITI Aayog, Balasubramaniam, conducted a formal review of the Karnataka Tribal Research Institute (KTRI) in Mysuru on July 28. During the visit, he instructed officials to prioritize the systematic recording of tribal languages, oral histories, indigenous culinary traditions, and ancestral customs. To bolster these efforts, the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs is prepared to expand its financial support for comprehensive documentation projects.
Addressing the institute's leadership and staff, Balasubramaniam proposed a collaborative framework between KTRI and regional universities. This strategy aims to integrate academic rigor with field research by organizing specialized training workshops for doctoral scholars and researchers focusing on tribal studies across Karnataka. The meeting involved a thorough assessment of the institute's current research portfolios, evaluation metrics, and public awareness campaigns.
Economic Modernization of LAMPS
A significant portion of the discussion focused on the economic viability of tribal institutions. Balasubramaniam advocated for the transition of Large Area Multipurpose Societies (LAMPS) into fully functional multipurpose cooperative entities.
