The first look at Nitesh Tiwari’s highly anticipated adaptation of the Ramayana arrived on July 30, 2026, offering a four-minute window into a production that seeks to scale the mythological story for modern global audiences. Produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios, DNEG, and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations, the project has garnered significant attention for its financial scale. Industry reports indicate the budget has surpassed Rs 4,000 crore, positioning it among the costliest films ever produced in India.
Casting and Character Dynamics
The trailer initiates with Yash portraying Ravana as he consolidates power across his kingdom. Conversely, the narrative introduces Ranbir Kapoor as Rama, the incarnation of Lord Vishnu, presented to the people by his father, Dashrath, played by Arun Govil. The footage highlights key narrative milestones including:
- The union of Rama and Sita (Sai Pallavi).
- The start of their 14-year exile (Vanvas).
- The confrontation between Lakshman and Ravana’s sister, Surpanakha, played by Rakul Preet.
