New Zealander local resident Gibbs is currently recovering from a life-threatening encounter with a shark while diving in Fijian waters. The attack resulted in severe trauma to his right leg, leading to immediate hospitalization.

Since the incident, the diver has underwent a total of four surgeries to repair damaged tissue and muscle. Medical teams also performed a skin graft on the affected limb as part of his ongoing stabilization and recovery process.
