Nearly 40,000 people have been forced to flee their homes in southwest France as massive wildfires continue to spread across the region. The interior minister confirmed the large-scale evacuation efforts as emergency services prioritize resident safety.
Hundreds of firefighters have spent several days battling intense flames located dozens of kilometres west of Bordeaux. Extreme weather conditions and dry terrain have complicated efforts to bring the multiple fire fronts under control.
Emergency shelters have been established in nearby towns to accommodate the thousands of displaced residents and tourists. Local officials remain on high alert as changing wind patterns threaten to push the smoke and flames toward more populated areas.
