Muzaffarnagar Imposes Strategic Travel Restrictions for Kanwar Yatra Pilgrimage

Phased Traffic Management Strategy

Muzaffarnagar authorities have finalized a comprehensive traffic diversion plan to accommodate the Kanwar Yatra, scheduled to run from July 30 to August 11. According to Traffic Superintendent Atul Kumar Chaubey, the initial phase begins on July 30, focusing on restricting heavy vehicle movement on the Ganga Canal road and the Delhi-Haridwar National Highway. A segment of the national highway will be designated as an exclusive corridor for the walking pilgrims.

The enforcement measures will tighten significantly during the pilgrimage's peak. From August 4 to August 12, officials will implement a total ban on all vehicular traffic on these specific transit routes to prevent accidents and ensure the unhindered passage of devotees carrying Ganga water.

Enhanced Surveillance and Safety Measures

District Magistrate Umesh Mishra confirmed that safety protocols extend beyond road management. To mitigate risks at major bathing locations along the Ganga Canal, the administration is deploying teams of specialized police divers. These assets will monitor popular spots to provide immediate assistance during the ritual baths.

Infrastructure for law enforcement has also been scaled up to handle the mass gathering. Senior Superintendent of Police Sanjai Kumar announced the activation of a temporary police station at Rampur Tiraha, situated on the Delhi-Dehradun National Highway. This temporary command post will operate under the direction of Sub-Inspector Subhash Chand and will be staffed by a dedicated contingent of 20 personnel to manage local security and logistics.
