The Manithaneya Makkal Katchi (MMK) has formally denounced the Union government’s recent decision to decline Metro Rail project proposals for Coimbatore and Madurai. This development, which emerged on Sunday, marks the second time the central administration has dismissed the state’s plans for expanded urban transit in these key hubs.
Allegations of Obstructionism and Disparity
P. Abdul Samad, General Secretary of the MMK, characterized the rejection as a calculated effort to impede Tamil Nadu's industrial and social progress. He raised significant concerns regarding the consistency of the Union government's evaluation processes. Specifically, Samad highlighted the following points:
