The Bombay High Court has scheduled an August 5 hearing to address a civil suit filed by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari. Justice Arif Doctor presided over the preliminary proceedings on July 28, 2026, directing legal counsel Sandeep Ladda to serve notice to the named respondents: Meta, Google LLC, X Corp, and several unidentified individuals. The litigation seeks a permanent injunction against the distribution of content categorized by the Minister as defamatory and fabricated.
Allegations of Financial Malfeasance
At the center of the dispute are numerous deepfakes and AI-generated posts concerning India's ethanol-blended fuel initiatives. According to the plea, unknown entities circulated media falsely claiming Gadkari holds personal responsibility for the program. The content further alleges that the Minister and his family members derived direct financial gain from these policies. Gadkari’s legal team argues these claims are entirely without merit, designed specifically to distort public perception and inflict irreparable damage on his personality rights.

While the posts target Gadkari, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas—not Gadkari's office—actually administers the national ethanol-blending program and the E20 policy.
