Horror Auteur Reimagines King’s Debut Novel

Prime Video has revealed the first footage of its upcoming television adaptation of Carrie, directed by Mike Flanagan. Scheduled for an October 7 premiere, the eight-episode series marks Flanagan’s fourth cinematic engagement with Stephen King’s bibliography, following his work on Gerald’s Game, Doctor Sleep, and The Life of Chuck. During a presentation at San Diego Comic-Con, Flanagan clarified that the series serves as a fresh interpretation rather than a shot-for-shot remake of Brian De Palma’s 1976 cinematic landmark.

Digital Age Trauma and Telekinesis

The new production updates the 1974 source material by integrating modern high school pressures, including the role of social media and the spread of digital misinformation. Summer H. Howell leads the cast as Carrie White, a teenager isolated by both her peers and the rigid religious dictates of her mother, Margaret White, played by Samantha Sloyan. The narrative tracks the emergence of Carrie’s telekinetic powers as they collide with years of systemic bullying and domestic trauma.

Cast and Creative Collaborations

The production features a mix of new faces and Flanagan’s frequent collaborators. The primary cast includes:
