Medical authorities in Kakinada district confirmed on Monday that 32 individuals are currently recovering after a sudden outbreak of diarrhea. The health crisis began on June 28 in Dugguduru village, located within the Kajuluru mandal, shortly after residents consumed snacks prepared by a local vendor. Patients reportedly began exhibiting symptoms within minutes of eating the food items.
Current Status and Medical Oversight
Dr. K. Narasimha Naik, the Kakinada District Medical and Health Officer, issued a statement on June 29, 2026, clarifying that all affected individuals are now in stable condition. Currently, the patients are receiving medical attention at the Dugguduru Primary Health Centre. "The 32 patients are out of danger," Dr. Naik stated, noting that the immediate threat to their lives has been mitigated.
Evidence Collection and Village-Wide Screening
In response to the cluster of illnesses, the Medical and Health Services department has joined forces with Food Safety officials to identify the contamination source. The multi-agency team has taken the following actions:
- Seizure and collection of food samples from the specific vendor's inventory for laboratory analysis.
- Initiation of a comprehensive health survey across Dugguduru village to identify any additional unreported cases.
- Monitoring of local water and food supply chains to prevent further infection spikes.
