Kerala Health University Expands Academic Scope Through Four Campus Initiatives

Direct Academic Instruction Debuts at Mulangunnathukavu

The Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS) is transitioning from its traditional role as an affiliating body to a provider of direct on-campus education. On Friday, Health Minister K. Muraleedharan will officially launch the MSc Medical Bioinformatics program. Based at the university's headquarters in Mulangunnathukavu, this course is the first postgraduate offering of its kind in the state and functions under the School of Translational Health Sciences. This shift signifies a strategic move toward interdisciplinary medical education and research innovation.

Infrastructure for Digital Learning and Public Health

In addition to new academic tracks, the university is expanding its technological and environmental footprint through three distinct projects:

• E-Learning Studio: A new state-of-the-art facility will produce masterclasses and digital resources to support technology-enabled learning.
• Public Health YouTube Channel: This platform will broadcast expert interviews and validated medical information to combat health misinformation and promote evidence-based lifestyles.
• Medicinal Plant Garden: Funded by the National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB), this site will focus on biodiversity conservation and serve as a research hub for students and faculty.

Strategic Institutional Growth

Vice-Chancellor Mohanan Kunnummal will preside over the inauguration ceremony, which represents a new era for KUHS. University officials stated that these initiatives aim to bridge the gap between theoretical health sciences and practical public awareness. By establishing its own academic programs and digital media presence, the institution intends to set a new standard for medical research and preventive healthcare outreach within Kerala.
