Karur Tragedy: Chief Minister Vijay Issues Compassionate Job Orders to 31 Families
Following the 2025 stampede that resulted in 41 deaths, Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay visited Karur to fulfill employment promises. The state provided junior assistant roles to eligible family members across various government departments.
State Response to the Velusamypuram Rally Disaster
Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay visited the Karur District Collectorate on Friday, marking his first return to the region since the September 27, 2025, stampede during a Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) rally. The incident, which occurred at Velusamypuram, resulted in 41 fatalities. During a somber 45-minute session, the Chief Minister interacted with survivors and kin, providing government employment orders to 31 eligible family members on compassionate grounds.
Deployment of Beneficiaries Across Departments
The newly appointed individuals will serve as junior assistants within several state administrative branches. Recipient names and their respective home regions include:
- B. Anandajothi from Pugalur
- M. Nivetha of Sengunthapuram
- S. Kalaiselvi from Sanapiratti
- A. Jothi of Salem
- S. Prabakar from Uppidamangalam
These positions span departments such as Revenue, Rural Development, School Education, Police, Registration, and Town Panchayats. A. Jothi, who lost her husband Anand in the disaster, noted that while financial aid cannot replace her loss, the permanent government role offers long-term stability. S. Prabakar confirmed that the Chief Minister fulfilled his previous commitment to support the impacted families.
Industrial Expansion and Administrative Presence
Beyond the emotional meeting at the Collectorate, where the Chief Minister was visibly moved while consoling grieving relatives, the visit included industrial development initiatives. Vijay laid the foundation stone for the Evervan Kothari Footwear manufacturing plant located at Manavasi, near Krishnarayapuram.
The Karur proceedings were attended by a high-level delegation, including Ministers Aadhav Arjuna and K.A. Sengottaiyan. Senior administrative figures present included Chief Secretary M. Saikumar, Industries Secretary S. Vijaykumar, and Collector C. Muthukumaran.
