It is raining feats at this school in Chetpet

Over 1,137 students, 90 staff and 56 world records in the offing. MCC Public School in Chetpet is sporting a festive mood with ‘MCC World Records Festival 2026’ under way on the campus till July 26. To mark the school’s 10th anniversary, six major team world records and 50 individual world record attempts across academics, artistry, athletics and cultural disciplines are happening. Besides showcasing the talent, creativity, innovation and endurance, the Records Festival has ensured every student is part of some event whereby they get to showcase their skills.

For instance, there is Jessica John of Class IX who showcased her mastery with words by penning 200 poems on a range of topics. Her batchmate, Samanta Felix, showed her skill on the court by playing badminton against most opponents for the longest duration: nine hours 45 minutes.

All the events are being adjudicated by four internationally recognised bodies — Elite World Records, Asian Book of Records, Indian Book of Records and Tamilan Book of Records.

On July 24, students performed a sports drill while holding umbrellas at a single venue. Likewise, there was another feat with vegetable print artwork and solving single-digit mental arithmetic addition problems.

Each of these feats was a display of hard work and mental discipline.

The idea to bring out a book was floated by a student, Daita Hardikh. The process for ‘Most Authors Contributing to a Fiction Story Book Series Published by a School’ began in April. Each story had to be 250 words and was written in the school in their notebooks.

Yasmin Khan, teacher with the English Department, says the book titled ‘Inspire’ is a collection of fictional stories on a range of topics that children relate to and the first version was corrected by teachers of the English department.

The exercise went through many checks and balances to ensure the contents of the story was not plagiarised and each of the authors had to come up with their first manuscript for an interview round.

On July 25 and 26, the ‘Longest Bible Reading Marathon’ will be conducted for 24 hours.

The citation ceremony will be held on August 1; 9 a.m. onwards.

Jolly Saji Mathew, principal of the school, says the World Records Festival would serve as memory for all. “We noticed that there were so many children with talents and they had to be given a platform where they could showcase their skills individually and as a team, which is what our motto also is “Achieving Excellence Together”, says Jolly.
