Speaking at the Dharwad District Union of Working Journalists (DDUWJ) annual Media Day on July 26, Sankeshwar highlighted the binary nature of press power, noting that a reporter’s work can trigger either systemic growth or widespread ruin. He tasked the media with the preservation of national prosperity and the welfare of coming generations.
Navigating the Digital Shift
The rise of digital platforms and television news has eroded traditional newspaper circulation, a trend Sankeshwar urged the industry to combat. He recommended that publishers launch targeted studies into evolving reader preferences and implement bold experiments to reclaim audience attention. The ceremony, held at the Karnatak Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Hubballi, served as a forum for these modernization strategies.
Recognition of Professional Excellence
The DDUWJ event featured the distribution of several honors for journalistic contributions across multiple categories. Ganesh Joshi, a veteran writer and journalist, received the Lifetime Achievement Award. In addition to Joshi, 13 other professionals were recognized for their reporting:

Health Initiatives and Union Leadership
In a move to improve labor conditions, former KLE Society Director Shankranna Munavalli announced that journalists and their families would receive health cards. These credentials provide medical services at the JGM Medical College and Hospital managed by the KLE Society in Hubballi. DDUWJ President Bandu Kulkarni oversaw the proceedings, which included participation from KUWJ Secretary Pundalik Baloji and Karnataka Media Academy member J. Abbas Mulla.
